Home Playoff game v East

With the win over Maple Mountain, we earned a home playoff game against East this Friday at 4pm.

There will be a team dinner on Thursday at 5pm.

October 21, 2012

Playoff Time at Maple Mountain

1st playoff game is at Maple Mountain at 5pm on Friday.

The JV and Sophomore teams finished successful seasons.  They are encouraged to continue to practice with the varsity through the playoffs.  It is a great opportunity.

Coach G: What a great team effort at Maple Mountain.  That shows great resilience to battle through a tough schedule and still continue to play with confidence and passion.  Our theme was synergy (brotherhood, teamwork, etc)  There were many examples but one great example early was our defense forcing a punt, then our offense driving 84 yards for the TD, then our special teams forcing the fumble on KO and the offense punching it in for the TD again.  Another shutout for the defense, against an offense that was averaging nearly 30 points per game. Great Job!!

Highland and Fall Break

Varsity plays at Highland High on Wednesday, because of fall break.  Highland does not have a jv team so we will only play a sophomore game this week.  It will be Tuesday at home at 3:30.

Coach G: What a great battle against another excellent playoff team. It was a great job of players stepping into new roles, because of injury, and helping the team compete. The defense did an outstanding job against a great option team with only 1 practice.  Keep up the great work and continue to improve each week in the playoffs.

Logan

Varsity plays Logan on Friday at 7pm at home.  The sophs play on Thursday at home at 3:30 and JV goes to Logan at 3:30pm.  The freshmen play at Logan on Wed at 4pm.

At halftime of the varsity game on Friday we would like to honor the parents of the seniors for your support and dedication.

Coach G: Before the game, teachers were recognized for being great examples to the seniors. Each senior chose a teacher who impacted them positively, they wrote them a letter of gratitude and honored them at the team dinner on Thursday. At half time, the parents of the seniors were honored for their support to the boys and the football program.  We have an amazing group of senior parents who have given of their time and effort to help these boys succeed.  They were lead this year by Dana Yeates.  Thank you to all of you.

Bonneville

We play at Bonneville on Friday.  Soph and JV play at 3:30 on Thursday, JV at home and Soph at Bonneville.  Freshmen play on Wed at 4pm at home vs. Sky View

Coach G: Our theme this week was focus and it required great focus to play this game with all of the distractions and against a well prepared and motivated Bonneville team.  In region 5 it is imperative to play at your best every week because the worst team can beat the best team.  We always want to play a team at its best, it makes us a better football team.  Continue to focus on what you can do to make the team better.

Mt Crest

Sophs and JV played great games and came up with the wins.  The varsity played a great game but ran out of time competing for the win.  Great effort and teamwork.  We must eliminate the mistakes.  It is not the big plays that beat us but the routine plays with mistakes.

September 17, 2012

Sky View

We are playing Sky View on KJZZ 14 on Thursday with the Varsity at 7pm at Box Elder. Team Dinner will be Wed at 5:30pm

The Sophs will play at 2:00 on Friday and the JV right after at 4:30.  Both games at Sky View.

Freshmen play Wednesday at 5pm at Sky View

CoachG: The game started sloppy, but turned into an excellent team performance.  The theme was respect and the way the game was played showed respect for the game, school, community and teammates.  Synergy is when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.  There were many plays that embodied synergy, or great teamwork.  Keep working together.

Homecoming v. Roy

Varsity plays Roy on Friday at 7pm for the annual homecoming game. JV plays at Roy and Sophs play here v Roy both games at 3:30 pm.  The freshmen travel to Pocatello to play Highland High School

Coach G: Character was the theme and true character was revealed as we faced adversity and an excellent Roy team.  That was a great second half after what seemed like everything went their way in the first half.  What a great team win.  Part of the process is being able to face adversity and get through it together as a team. 2nd half was an example of synergy (1+1=3).  Keep up the great effort.

Syracuse

Varsity plays at 5pm at Weber State on Friday.  We will be the visiting team and wear white.
JV is at home and Sophs at Syracuse, both games start at 3:30pm on Thursday.
Freshmen play at home on Wednesday against Mt. Crest at 4pm.

Coach G: We played a great football team and competed. Our theme was total effort and I saw that exhibited throughout the game.  The team and individuals kept competing no matter what was happening or what the score was. Especially on the last drive of the game.  There was no quit in our team on the field or on the sideline.  That is an attribute of a championship football team.

Bear River

Varsity on Friday at Bear River at 7 pm, winner keeps the Golden Spike.

Bear River doesn't have enough players to play jv and sophomores.  So, we are going to play our juniors and sophomores together here on Thursday.  Freshmen play at Bear River at 4pm Thursday.

Coach G: Our theme this week was "stay together".  What a great example of that displayed at the varsity game.  I saw 11 guys around the ball on offense, defense and special teams. If a player made a mistake it seemed like teammates were there to encourage.  Everyone doing their job with great enthusiasm.  I was impressed with the focus displayed all week.  Keep up the great work!

Clearfield 2012

Varsity game is Friday at 7pm at home.  JV at 2pm and Soph at 4:15 games are also at home, Clearfield is installing a new turf field and it is not completed yet.

It was a great game day atmosphere at the first home game against Weber.  Players played with great energy, smell of BBQ, student section cheering and parents getting their early and leaving late.

CoachG: Great effort this week as a team.  The theme was pedal downhill, or work hard even when it would be easy or acceptable to take a break.  In the games against Clearfield there were times when we could have rested.  I appreciate those who kept "pedaling".  It takes extra focus to train yourself to always do that.  Keep up the great effort!

Football practice

Practice begins on Monday July 30 at 8am at high school.  Practice schedule is as follows: Mon-Friday 8-10 am Mon and Wed. 6-7:30 pm
   -Monday and Tuesday Helmets only
-Wed - Fri.  Helmets and Sh. Pads
Freshmen will practice at 8am M-F at Middle School

CoachG: It was a great first week of practice.  The journey of becoming a great team has begun.  Each player has a role in making the team great. The heat of Aug is like the sword makers furnace.  When making great swords they had to heat the metal so hot that the impurities would come out, so the sword would be strong and infallible in battle.

Team Conditioning

Strength and speed training is an important part of our off season program and the team is doing a great job of getting stronger.  Keep up the great work.

As we get closer to the start of the season it becomes very important to start conditioning the body to run and be in great shape.  Football is short bursts of energy with a rest in between, therefore, we need to condition for 5 second bursts then 20 to 30 second rests.

Conditioning will be done after the strength workout every day.  It will be lead by seniors and coaches.

The conditioning link above has the basic workouts detailed.

CoachG: Team Camp was a success!  All players were able to get reps and learn the base offense and defense. All 3 teams did very well at Syracuse on Wednesday.  It is very promising for the season.  It is very important that we continue to improve both individually and as a team.  Every player can improve on their basic technique and position skills.  Work every day to improve your skills.

7on7

There will be 7on7 practice Tuesday May 29 after school at high school.  There are also 2 tournaments next week.  Bear River Ice Breaker on May 31 at 4pm at BRHS and Weber State 7on7 on June 2 at Weber County Fairgrounds.  Bear River costs $12 and Weber State is $15 per player, which includes a tshirt. We are planning to take 3 teams to each tournament, Varsity, JV and Soph.

Note: 7on7 is for receivers, tight ends, running backs, quarterbacks, linebackers, safeties, and corners. They are passing only tournaments, it is an opportunity to put the passing game in and master it.

Coach G: It was a great week with 2 successful passing tournaments.  The goal of these games is to get competitive repetitions for all players.  There was excellent improvement in these 2 days of of competition.  It is a great start to the season.  Players were working together and helping each other.  Keep up the great work!
