College Recruiting Seminar

On Wednesday Nov. 30 at 7pm at the Box Elder High School Auditorium there will be a seminar put on by Paul Putnam.  "College Recruiting Simplified" which is sponsored by NFL Players Assoc. and ESPNrise.  He is a national college recruiting speaker.  It is recommended for any players who are planning to play college football and also for their parents.  It is very educational and he will give each player/parents who attend access to a website that will give more information about the recruiting process.  It is a 1 hour seminar and Paul will be available after to answer questions from players and parents.

Note: Because of the purple and white wrestling match there will be a second seminar at 8:30 for the wrestlers and volleyball players, who are having their banquet.  He will shorten it and will be available after to answer questions.

End of Season

It was a tough way to end the season but what a wonderful group of young men that represented our school and community this season.  Thanks to our seniors and their efforts over the past 4 years for Box Elder Football.  We wish them the best and are grateful for the legacy that they leave.  The juniors now have to prepare themselves to carry the torch.  Don't waste one day in your off season preparation.  It goes by fast, just ask the seniors.

Stay tuned to this blog for details of the end of season banquet and post season awards as they come out.

Thanks to the wonderful people who helped make this another successful football season.

Pocatello and Fall Break

We play Pocatello at home on Thursday with the Varsity.  On Wednesday the Freshmen play at 4pm and JV, which includes the sophomores, play at 6pm.  The games are at Irving Jr. High.

There is no school on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday because of Fall Break.  The team meal will be breakfast instead of dinner this week.

CoachG: What a fun week of football.  No school and just football, it is like being a professional football player.  Great job on the road in Pocatello of representing not only Box Elder but the state of Utah against one of Idaho's best.  Thursday was a physical game that was won by making the fewest mistakes and playing with great energy and competing.  The "FISTs" were flying.

Logan

We play Logan this week at Logan on Friday.  The JV plays at home at 3:30 on Thursday and the Sophs play at Logan at 3:30 on Thursday.  The Freshmen play on Wednesday at 4pm at Logan.

CoachG:  Nice job of competing and never giving up or giving in.  The game plan was to make them earn everything and put pressure on them by shortening the game and controlling the ball.  While there were mistakes made, it was a great job of not backing down and fighting through adversity.  The "hive" was loud and disruptive.

Bonneville and Homecoming

Varsity plays Bonneville on Friday at 7pm for the 2011 Homecoming Game. On Thursday the Sophs play at home at 3:30pm and JV plays at Bonneville at 3:30pm.

The team dinner will be Thursday at 7pm following the practice. It is also the second half of senior faculty appreciation this week. Seniors honor the great teachers and influences they have had here at Box Elder.

CoachG: It was great to win a game at the end.  It showed great character to overcome the many obstacles and adversity throughout the week and game.  Keep working the process of being a champion. FIST was evident again, especially spirited teamwork.

Mt. Crest in Cancer Awareness Game

We play Mountain Crest this week. Freshmen on Wed at home, JV at Mt Crest on Thursdayat 3:30 and Sophs at home on Thursday at 3:30. Varsity will play a home game again, finally. It is a cancer awareness game sponsored locally. The game is Friday night at 7pm.

Thursday at 7pm will be the team dinner in the commons area at the high school. Thanks again to the parents who make it possible.

CoachG: It was a great Region 5 football game. In a game that close the reasons for the loss can be traced back to many plays. Instead of focusing on the negative things that caused the loss, Winners focus on the great things that were accomplished and get to work making those things even better. When the fist is raised that means that something great is happening. Keep "firing the fist".

Sky View Bobcats

This week we play the Sky View Bobcats.
-Freshmen here on Wednesday at 4:00
-Soph at Sky View at 3:30 on Thursday
-JV here at 3:30 on Thursday
-Varsity at Sky View on Friday at 7pm

CoachG: In close games it becomes the little things that make the biggest difference. It comes down to 3-5 plays that win or lose the game. It is imperative that we treat every play like the one that makes the difference.

Roy and Region 5

This week we play Roy at Roy with the varsity on Friday at 7pm. This is our first Region game. The JV plays at home at 3:30 on Thursday and the Sophs play at Roy at 3:30 on Thursday. The freshmen play Logan on Wed at 3:30 here.

There is no school for students on Wednesday and we will have practice at 2:30.

CoachG: What great energy and effort that was displayed on Friday at Roy. There was definitely "white heat intensity" on display individually and as a team. Now, it is important to be able to control that and we didn't on offense. Continue working hard to improve. I did see some great teammates trying to pick each other up after making mistakes, that is a great example of FIST.

September 4, 2011

Syracuse at Weber State

This week we play the Syracuse Titans. Soph game is Thursday at home at 3:30pm and JV is at Syracuse at 3:30pm. Freshmen play at Mt Crest on Wednesday at 4pm.

The varsity game is at Weber State at 5pm. It is part of a double header with Davis and Hunter at 8pm.

CoachG: The field looked great with all the purple. We played with great effort. That is a tough way to lose a game. Keep working the process of improving everyday. In evenly matched games like that, it becomes the team that makes the fewest mistakes that wins. Our team doesn't back down from anybody and showed great toughness in that game, I was impressed with the competitiveness and fight.

Bear River and the Golden Spike

Games this week are against Bear River
-Freshmen are Thursday at 4pm here
-JV (a combination of sophomores and juniors) play Thursday at 4pm at Bear River
-there isn't a separate JV and Soph game this week
-Varsity game is 7pm on Friday

KSL is bringing Game Night Live to Box Elder for this game

CoachG: It was an exciting night Friday with the KSL Game Night and Battle for Golden Spike on the line. We played with great effort and determination. The theme this week was "do your job" I felt like everyone did their job all week with great focus. School started and it was a great week of work in preparation. This was another example of a team win. Scout team was focused and working hard all week. Box Elder Football is every man doing his job to the best of his ability. The hive was strong and the bees were strong!!

Week 2 Clearfield

This week is first game for Sophs and JV. They will play on Thursday at 3:30.
The JV is at home and the Sophs are at Clearfield.
The varsity will play Friday at Clearfield at 7pm.

CoachG: Great week of overcoming adversity. We talk about the refiner's fire, this week the heat made it feel like we were in it. Excellent job on Friday night of taking a teams best and staying focused. Great example in the second half of finishing! Things don't always go our way and it is important to stay focused and keep working together. FIST!

Weber and Mom's Night

Wednesday night was Mom's night. Thank you to all the Mom's who came and participated. It is awesome to see the players trying to coach their mothers.

CoachG:Friday night was a great start to the season. It was a great team win. Many players were able to contribute to the team success. Our theme through the summer was "strength of the bee is the hive and the strength of the hive is the bee". That was evident on Friday with the individual players sacrificing and doing their job for the glory of the team. It was also amazing that we had more fans than Weber and that is a tribute to the support of our community. Go Bees!!

Packets are due

Please make sure that you get you packets in to Coach Peterson, BEHS Athletic Director.

There has been confusion on the fundraisers. The boys were told that they can't use those towards their district fees unless they talk to Coach Gunter. Some of the boys forgot to tell their parents the last part of that statement and it has caused some confusion. If your son has raised money for their district fees through a fundraiser please have them talk to Coach Gunter to verify the amount.

CoachG: Thank you to all who helped with the Purple and White. A special thanks to Vicki Werling and Burton Withey and their crews. It was a great success on the field and off. It takes great parents to run a great football program and we have great parents. The players showed great effort and are starting to come together as a team. The meal for the players was great after and the hospitality of the parents serving and working was amazing. I am looking forward to an exciting and successful season.
