Woods Cross

Varsity Plays last Region 5 game against Woods Cross on Friday at 7pm at Woods Cross

Sophomores play at Woods Cross on Thursday at 3:30 or 6:30.  The game time will depend on the Woods Cross girls soccer team.  They are in the state playoffs and if they win on Tuesday they will play at home and our game will be moved to 6:30 pm, if not it will be a regular 3:30 start

JV game will be at Box Elder (finally!) on Thursday at 3:30 pm.  *Stay tuned because that game time could change also depending on the track construction.

Roy and Teacher Appreciation

Varsity will play Roy at home on Friday at 7:00pm
JV and Sophs will play at Roy on Thursday.  JV at 3:30 and Sophs right after, around 6pm.d
Freshmen will play at Morgan on Wednesday at 4pm.

Teacher Appreciation night is at the game on Friday.  Our seniors are asked in the summer to think of a teacher that has impacted their lives.  They choose a teacher, write a letter of gratitude, and invite them to the team dinner and game.  It is so important to recognize and show gratitude to the great people that help us in our lives.  This is a small way that these young men can give back.

Clearfield and weather

We play Clearfield with the Varsity at home on Friday night at 7pm.  They are a non region opponent from the 6A classification.

Because of the weather last week the scheduled track installment was not done and they have postponed for this week and next. This means that we can't play any subvarsity games at our field.  We have rescheduled them to Clearfield.

The JV will play at 3:30 and Sophs right after on Thursday at Clearfield.

The Freshmen have a game against Alta and that will be played at Box Elder Middle School at 4 pm on Wednesday.

CoachG: This week our theme was FIST and we saw a lot of them flying high after great plays on Friday night.  FIST stands for Focused Intensity, Spirited Teamwork.  By raising the fist in the air after a great play each player is recognizing the team instead of drawing attention to themselves. Our focus this week was by helping others succeed it will in turn help everyone succeed.

Viewmont and Track construction

Viewmont
Varsity plays at Viewmont on Friday at 7pm
JV and Sophs will both play at Viewmont on Thursday because of the construction of our track we are to be off the field this week and next week.
JV game will be at 3:30pm and Sophs will follow right after at Viewmont.

A "heads up" for next weeks Sophomore game will be moved to Clearfield on Thursday.  They have set the schedule already and are planning to play Sophs at 3:30 and JV after, which is the opposite of this week.

Bountiful and Region 5

Region 5 football begins this week against Bountiful.  It is also Homecoming!

Varsity plays Friday night at Ferguson Field at 7pm
JV plays at Bountiful, Sophs play at home, both are 3:30pm Thursday
Freshmen play Pleasant Grove on Wed at 4pm at Ferguson Field

CoachG: This week our theme was the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley.  We focused on controlling what we can control.  As a team we did not do that very well on Friday night. The sophomores did a good job of it on Thursday. We need to have more confidence and trust individually in ourselves. We need to continue to work the process of improvement.

Bees in College

As the college season started it was great to see former Bees competing at the next level.  This is a list of the Bees that are currently playing and the college they are playing for.

Justus Brown plays LB for Weber State
Shane Hardy plays OL for Dixie State
Breckin Gunter plays LB for Weber State
Riley Burt plays RB for BYU
Haydn Stender plays OL for William Penn

Go Bees!!

Pocatello

Finally a Home Game!!
Varsity plays Pocatello on Friday at 7pm at Ferguson Field
Freshmen play at Pocatello at 4:30pm and JV play right after, around 6:30, on Thursday.

Pocatello doesn't have a football field at their high school. We play them at Irving Jr High football field.

Notes: There is not a sophomore game this week.  Some of the sophomores will be traveling to play with the JV on Thursday.

There is practice Monday morning at 8.

A simple way to get to Irving Jr High is to take the Pocatello Center St/Clark St exit.  Take Clark street, a one way, all the way downtown.  You will go through a tunnel on center street, continue until Grant. Take a right on Grant, about 5-6 blocks, to Irving.  The field is West of the school, behind it.

CoachG: This week our theme was Trust.  As a team we have to respect each other then learn to trust each other.  We also focused on trusting ourselves and our training.  There were many great examples of trust in the games this week.  Players work hard and their teammates know that they can trust them to do their job.  It makes everyone's job simpler.

Mt Crest and first week of school

Mt Crest
Varsity Plays at Mt Crest on Friday Sept. 1 at 7pm
JV plays at 4pm and Freshmen at 6pm on Thursday both at Mt Crest
Sophomores play at 6pm on Wednesday at Mt Crest

First week of school is going to be hot. Drink water.  It is not a bad idea to carry a water bottle with you because some of the classrooms will be in 90's (same temperature as a sauna).  If you wait until we get out to practice to drink it will be too late.

CoachG: This week our theme was Competitive Greatness.  The focus was on working hard, even through adversity.  Well, that was on display in the games this week.  Our teams competed, even through adversity and tough losses and wins.  I was impressed with the focused greatness of all the teams/players because no matter what the scoreboard said they were competing.  These young men are improving and continuing to work the process of becoming elite.

Bear River

The Battle for the Golden Spike is Friday at 7pm at Bear River
Freshmen play on Thursday at 6pm at Bear River
JV (this is a Sophomore/Junior team) play on Thursday at 4pm at Bear River

CoachG: This week our theme was E+R=O, Event + Response = Outcome.  We can't always control the event but we have total control over our response.  The focus was on the techniques necessary to keep our responses disciplined, such as press pause, shake it off, step up, adapt and adjust.  As we work the process there are some that are better at it than others but all are working on it and improving.

Endowment Week

Layton Lancers
This week the Varsity travels to Layton on Friday to play at 7pm.
there are no sophomore nor JV games this week.
There is a Freshmen game on Saturday at Alta high school at 10am.

Mom's night
Wednesday at 6pm is our annual Mom's night.  Meet on grass field just south of football field. Come prepared to learn a little football and have some fun with your son.

Notes:
Layton is going through construction also this summer as they are getting a new track and turf field.
Layton High is located at 440 Wasatch Dr. Layton, Utah (field is just south of school)
Alta High is located at 11055 S 1000 E Sandy, Utah (field is just south and east of school)

*Endowment
The Endowment game was created to raise money to eventually fund the UHSAA and pay insurances for athletic events.  Everyone pays to get in, even the home team students, and the money goes to the state endowment.

CoachG: This was a great week, which began with positive practices and an awesome Mom's Night.  It culminated with a couple of great games.  The varsity played with great energy on Friday at Layton and the Freshman continued that on Saturday morning at Alta.  Our theme this week was Discipline.  We focused on the study, learn and train definition of discipline.  Discipline is an ongoing personal choice of self improvement through study and training.  The rewards of those choices were evident on Friday night.

Purple and White

Thank You! Thank You!
To all those who helped us move our Purple and White to Watkins Park, including those from Brigham City and Brigham City Rec.  Especially the Parents group that moved everything from high school to be able to feed the boys.  Also, thanks to our trainer and to our announcer.

The games.
It was a great start to football season by "practicing" a game.  It is important for the boys to put on game jerseys and play in front of a crowd, with all the extra nerves and energy that is created.
All the teams have a lot of work to do but overall it was a successful Purple and White.  All players had an opportunity to show the skills that they have been working on for the past few weeks.  It was a spirited workout.  The defense played with energy and ran well to the ball and will need to continue to work to improve conditioning.  The offense had streaks of success but need to continue to work to improve execution.

Pictures.
There were some great photographers there taking amazing pictures.  They can be seen on the football facebook page.

2017 Summer

We are already a couple of weeks into the summer and it is going well.  Our emphasis in the month of June is improving our passing game.  We have been to two 7on7 competitions and have improved with each game at all levels.  We will continue lifting in the month of June Mon to Thurs AM.

July is a crazy month.  We have the Moratorium to start the month then we have Team Camp on July 17 to 21.  We take the week off and then we start the season Aug. 31 with our Purple and White on Aug. 11 and our first game at Layton on Aug. 18.
Every day is important for us to improve.  Have a great summer and Go Bees!!

2017 Blog update

Last season there was an attempt to use a new website and coordinate with other programs instead of using this blog.  It did not work as effectively as hoped.  So we are going back to this blog and the facebook page to keep parents/players updated on what is happening with Box Elder Football.    The schedule is updated and the summer calendar is updated.  As with "all things summer" there will be changes and we will get those updated to let you, the parent/player, know.
